Major Players

There is a necessity to simplify in order to highlight the connections between people and

events in history. But there is also a danger in simplifying, especially when the subject

treads so near to the territory of wild conspiratorial speculation. Care must be taken not

to overinflate the significance of certain events but also not downplay areas where parties

may have mutually influenced one another. It is common for overreaching to be completely

marginalized because of its obvious hyperbole. It is also common for associations to be

dismissed as forgettable – if it were up to politicians, no meeting would ever be noteworthy.

IRAQI NATIONAL CONGRESS (INC)

Ahmad Chalabi (b. Oct 30, 1944)

The CIA was directed after the first Gulf War to coordinate anti-Saddam groups. John Rendon

(RENDON GROUP) supposedly named INC. Covert and overt funding. Led by Ahmad Chalabi,

international criminal and swindler. Almost failed, but somehow got most of 97 million dollars

in aid in 1998. Wolfowitz and Perle backed Chalabi – Chalabi got a PhD in mathematics from the

University of Chicago in 1969, Wolfowitz got his PhD in Political Science at the University of

Chicago in 1967 and that same year Perle got his Phd in Poli Sci from Princeton. Chalabi was Judy

Miller's main source of WMD propaganda.

BOTTOM LINE: Just like the Cuban ruling-class refugees, the INC was a bunch of rich assholes who

found they could use America to get revenge by proxy, aided by Wolfowitz's world domination

fantasies (which Chalabi probably remembered from his college days). Chalabi wants to be a sultan.

HALLIBURTON

Alan M. Bennett, James R. Boyd, Robert L. Crandall, Kenneth T. Derr, Others

Energy Services Group is the oil exploration and production section and KBR is the construction

branch. They, naturally, do about a million other things, usually involving trashing the planet.

Proud builders of the police state.

Dick Cheney became its chairman/CEO in 1995.

BOTTOM LINE: In it for the money and to control the world's energy supplies (leading, ultimately,

to more of the money) – the Middle East was the logical first choice, easy to make the case, easy

to start the war, easy to divert attention long enough to snatch up the energy.

ORGANIZATION OF THE PETROLEUM EXPORTING COUNTRIES (OPEC)

They wanted to push war with Iraq so they could prevent the oil from being pumped – just as they

had done back in 1925 (Calouse Gulbenkian). Iraq was severely underpumping – if they opened up

their reserves AND nationalized them, they could flood the world market and actually compete.

In the first Gulf War, Kuwait was siphoning off oil from jointly owned Iraqi/Kuwaiti fields.

Saddam thought he could seize the fields and up the oil limit – the US told him they would not

interfere. Saddam got suckered.

They needed to control the price of oil, which Saddam was not going along with.

BP (British Petroleum)

Could still pump from Iran.

STANDARD OIL (ARAMCO)

Could still pump from Saudi Arabia.

SAUDI ARABIA

Ignore that they are huge sponsors of terrorism. They run OPEC and couldn't bear to see Iraq

devalue oil markets, not with all their shares in the balance.

BOTTOM LINE: Control the oil, control cash flow, make lots of money, manipulate world markets.

Own everything.

RENDON GROUP

Propaganda consulting group. The CEO and President is John W. Rendon, Jr. They helped cook up

the first Gulf war and they helped a lot with the second.

BOTTOM LINE: Money and influence are a powerful aphrodisiac. These guys didn't give a shit if

the war had been in Iraq or Bumfuckistan. Wherever the next war will be, they'll be creating it

before it happens.

THE PROJECT FOR THE NEW AMERICAN CENTURY (PNAC)

DIRECTORS: William Kristol, Robert Kagan, Bruce P. Jackson, Mark Gerson, Randy Scheunemann

SIGNATORIES (June 3, 1997): Elliott Abrams, Gary Bauer, William J. Bennett, Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney,

Eliot A. Cohen, Midge Dector, Paula Dobriansky, Steve Forbes, Aaron Friedberg, Francis Fukuyama,

Frank Gaffney, Fred C. Ikle, Donald Kagan, Zalmay Kalilzad, I. Lewis Libby, Norman Podhoretz,

Dan Quayle, Peter W. Rodman, Stephen P. Rosen, Henry S. Rowen, Donald Rumsfeld, Vin Weber,

George Weigel, Paul Wolfowitz

We will assume that the stated goals of this organization are, in fact, its actual goals, though

its members may have overlapping reasons for latching onto the project. This is the notion of

Empire as applied to the United States, only adding in a globalized market where wealth can be

siphoned from anywhere to the privileged, who properly live without borders, while the lower

classes are made into serfs.

BOTTOM LINE: Neocon wet-dream playbook, US asserts its bullying authority all over the world,

setting up a corporate colony system.

PAUL WOLFOWITZ

An aide to the anti-Communist, racist Senator "Scoop" Jackson in the 70s. His mentor in school

was Albert Wohlstetter, who possibly helped to influence Wolfowitz toward the idea of pre-emptive

war.

His doctorate thesis highlighted three points about nuclear proliferation in the Middle East:

nuclear inspections are for shit, secret weapons programs, nations going nuclear. Sound familiar?

Wolfowitz was assigned to Team B (the CIA team) authorized by George HW Bush (Director of Central

Intelligence) to cook up more sinister intelligence about the Soviet Union, disagreeing with

Ford's National Intelligence Estimate. Sound familiar?

So we've got young Wolfy – he's a kind of nerdy political science type. Except he starts out

completely skeptical with traditional methods of intelligence gathering and analysis. He didn't

think they were liberal enough in trying to guess the enemy's capabilities, so he indulged in

science-fiction fantasies. He didn't trust the available evidence, so he hyped up Soviet

tactics and goals. In some ways he was an iconoclast; In other ways, he was an idiot.

Team B managed to convince Reagan and Rumsfeld (SecDef . . . sound familiar?) that there was

merit in playing tough with the Soviets, effectively sabotaging SALT II and detente.

When Wolfy went to the Pentagon he attended a seminar by Geoffrey Kemp who said that the Soviets

were more likely to attack the Persian Gulf than Europe – which Team B had also believed. It was

at this point that he started to harp on Iraq because it was pro-Arab, anti-US, hated in the

region and, of course, the oil.

STATE DEPARTMENT (RONALD REAGAN)

RICHARD ALLEN – Nat'l Security Advisor

PAUL WOLFOWITZ – Director of Policy Planning, in 1982 was appointed to Assistant Secretary of

State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs

LEWIS LIBBY, FRANCIS FUKUYAMA, DENNIS ROSS, ALAN KEYES, ZALMAY KHALILZAD, STEPHAN SESTANOVICH,

JAMES ROCHE

Became US Deputy Secretary of Defense under Donald Rumsfeld. On Sept 11th, when Rumsfeld asked

about attacking Iraq, Wolfy seconded, saying it would be simple.

He rejected NATO support for Afghanistan. He decided that the sell on the Iraq war would focus

on WMDs. He and Rumsfeld set up the Office of Special Plans (and likely along with Cheney).

He ended up as President of the World Bank when the oil companies wanted Iraq leadership purged

of neocons.

BOTTOM LINE: American imperialism, pro-Israeli. It is possible he is motivated by ideology – though

a stupid ideology.

PAUL BREMER

Member of CFR and The Heritage Foundation and International Institute for Strategic Studies.

"What special expertise about Iraq or the Middle East is Bremer bringing to Iraq? "None", says

a former senior State Department official who has worked with Bremer. He is a "voracious

opportunist with voracious ambitions," the official told Newsday. "What he knows about Iraq

could not quite fill a thimble. What he knows about any part of the world would not fill a

thimble. But what he knows about Washington infighting could fill three or four bushel baskets."

JUDITH MILLER

A career opportunist and sometime journalist. She sold her ethics, profession and self-respect down the river when she started taking WMD dictation from Ahmad Chalabi.

BENADOR ASSOCIATES

Eleana Benador

Connections to the American Enterprise Institute, the Washington Institute and the Middle East Forum. Publicist for a lot of top neocons, including Richard Perle, Woolsey, Michael Ledeen and Frank Gaffney.

GROVER NORQUIST

Works from offices on L Street. Joined the far right-wing ideological wing to the business wing running from K-street. Once Newt Gingrich's right-hand man, he survived when Newt fell out.

By his own admission, he was an anti-Communist activist back in the 1970s.

"I started out as a right-winger, and when I retire I want to be a squishy middle-of-the-roader," he jokes, chortling at the thought. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20010514/dreyfuss

In the Reagan years he had ties to the contras and other anti-Soviet revolutionary groups, including groups in Mozambique (RENAMO) and Angola (UNITA) which were backed by South Africa's apartheid regime (ties here to Abramoff?).

SUN MYUNG-MOON

Washington Times - parent company New World Communications - funneling money to Bush for political shielding from charges against wrongdoing.

In the mid-1990s Moon bailed out Jerry Falwell's Liberty College through the Christian Heritage Foundation (funneled through the Women's Federation for World Peace).

helped fund George W. Bush's campaign.

BOTTOM LINE: messianic aspirations? fascistic aspirations? biz-ness.

__DICK CHENEY AS SECDEF__ (March 1989 – January 1993)

Deputy Secretary was DONALD J. ATWOOD, JR.

Asst. Sec Def for public affairs was PETE WILLIAMS.

Undersecretary of policy was PAUL WOLFOWITZ.

Chairman of JCS was COLIN POWELL.

Cheney was supposedly friendly with Secretary of State James Baker.

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Cheney warned about other nations gaining nuclear

omponents, notably Iraq, Iran and North Korea.

Interesting footnote: Bush needed to cut the 1990 defense bugdet by about 10 billion – one

of the pet projects for the Marine Corps was the Osprey. Cheney opposed the Osprey but it

was determined that such opposition was hurting the re-election campaign, so research funds

were allocated.

During the Gulf War: Cheney, according to Powell, "had become a glutton for information,

with an appetite we could barely satisfy. He spent hours in the National Military Command

Center peppering my staff with questions."

A draft Defense Planning Guidance issued early in 1992 envisioned several scenarios in which

the United States might have to fight two large regional wars at one time-for example,

against Iraq again, against North Korea, or in Europe against a resurgent, expansionist Russia.
